Charlotte Monghan – Domestic Life

Van Gogh’s “Potato Eaters” completed in April 1885 depicts a peasant family eating a simple meal by lamplight, reflecting Van Gogh's interest in the lives of the working class.  Using this as inspiration, along with the symbolism of domestic objects seen in Dutch Vanitas painting, enables the development of my ideas. My observational oil painted outcome, created in the 15 hour time period, depicts my two friends, lit by candlelight, sharing an experience surrounded by objects linking to their cultural backgrounds.
