Charlotte Monghan – Portraits

My final outcome for my personal investigation fuses old with new. The central figure (my friend Prot) clutches an Ipad with a glitched image of social medial starlet Kylie Jenner. Our seemingly boundless appetite to elevate these “influencers” has been communicated via the vehicle of classical religious iconography depicted in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries in which religiously significant figures were surrounded by gold leaf halos and canvases were mounted in highly decorative gold gilt arched frames, mirroring the arches seen in European churches. This image serves to question the wisdom and validity of this move.
